Walk to make a difference.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is the International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault, and Gender Violence in our community. Men who sign up to participate, fundraise and help raise awareness of this very serious issue. Walk a Mile benefits YWCA's Sara McKnight Transitional Living Center where we house and serve women and children experiencing homelessness, many due to abuse or other forms of violence. Below are testimonials from YWCA TLC participants. This is why you are walking. You are walking to make a difference.

"I left a violent relationship after six years. I had two children and was expecting my third. When he hit me and I was 6 months pregnant, I left. That was the moment I realized he did not care about me and he did not care about our children. I refused to leave my kids without a mom, so I took my children and left with just the clothes we were wearing. YWCA has helped me get back on my feet. It is still hard, but I know I will make it. My family will make it."

"I was in a relationship for 10 years. He was the stepfather to my three children and he was a good man who never drank or did drugs or even cursed. Then my 14-year-old daughter told me he had been molesting her for a year. I left immediately. My daughter is an inspiration to me. She is so brave. YWCA has allowed me to find the path towards becoming independent. I was a stay at home mom and I didn't know anything about opening a checking account, finding a job, creating a budget, but now I do. The best part of the YWCA TLC is the home we found here. This place probably saved all of our lives."
